SJ Berwin has boosted its partnership count, with the hire of Weil Gotshal & Manges' senior associate Justin Michaelson in the international arbitration group.
Michaelson rejoins the firm from Weil Gotshal. He spent two years as an trainee and associate at SJ Berwin before moving to magic circle firm Clifford Chance.
Craig Pollack, head of the firm's commercial litigation department told The Lawyer: “The strategy behind the appointment of Justin is two-fold. Firstly, he is a quality lawyer and someone who we have had quite a bit to do with over the past few years, and secondly, arbitration is an area which we are looking to establish our presence as one of the leading players in the market.”
The latest appointment brings the total number of partners in the international arbitration practice area to three.
Specialising in the high-end of the arbitration market, Michaelson has acted for a string of high-profile clients, including BNP Paribas, Russian Aluminium, Morgan Stanley and Rothschilds.
