SJ Berwin has persuaded its EU and competition head Stephen Kon to stay at the firm after he handed in his resignation last month to join Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy.

Millbank voted Kon and fellow competition partner Cameron Firth into its partnership in June, but both lawyers chose to stay at SJ Berwin.

Kon joined SJ Berwin in 1982, establishing the firm’s EU and competition practice.

Kon is also the firm’s international partner and was believed to be a key figure driving the firm’s merger talks with Proskaur Rose. Discussions collapsed in November 2010 (12 November 2010).

Kon and SJ Berwin declined to comment.
