SJ Berwin targets Taylor Wessing property hire" />SJ Berwin has moved to strengthen its real estate links with Germany by hiring Taylor Wessing partner Rob Thompson.
Thompson, who has spent his entire legal career at Taylor Wessing, was heavily involved in integrating the UK and German real estate practices at the firm.
SJ Berwin head of real estate Bryan Pickup said: "As well as work in the UK, Rob will provide an invaluable resource for our UK clients who are looking to invest in Germany, allied to European fund work.
"We're looking at the development and funds practices for Europe, which are big expansion areas for us, and we have an enormous amount of work while being quite stretched resource-wise."
Pickup said the real estate team had made a priority of hiring for its Italian operation, while also seeking extra resources for France, Germany and Belgium.
Thompson's hire takes the number of partners in SJ Berwin's real estate division to 22 and comes as the firm reveals a 17 per cent increase in practice turnover for the 2005-06 financial year to £29m.
Real estate turnover now represents 21 per cent of the firm's total income in London.
