SJ Berwin has followed its City rivals by announcing the promotion of 16 associates to its partnership, its largest number to date.
The appointments are three more than last year, when 13 lawyers were made-up, and continue the firm’s increasing focus on organic growth. In 2004-05 seven were promoted, while 11 were made up in 2005-06.
In total, SJ Berwin has promoted 47 lawyers into its partnership over the past four years, with a consistent focus on the corporate practice, which has received 17 promotions since 2004-05.
Of the latest promotions, effective 1 May, seven are in corporate, three in tax, two in real estate and one apiece in finance, litigation, financial services and corporate and technology.
The appointments are disappointing for the finance team, which received just one promotion this year despite failing to receive any appointments last year.
London continues to receive the lion’s share of promotions, securing nine. Madrid and Munich fared best out of the Continental Europen office with two promotions apiece. The Paris, Frankfurt and Berlin offices also received one promotion each.
