SJ Berwin investment funds consultant defects to Speechly Bircham

Speechly Bircham has hired SJ Berwin consultant Victoria Younghusband, who joined as a partner in the firm’s financial services and funds team on 1 August.

Younghusband had been a partner in SJ Berwin’s investment funds group since she joined the firm from Lawrence Graham in July 2007, before taking up a consultant position in June 2013 (9 July 2007).

The firm said the hire would help develop the firm’s integrated funds practice, which currently combines mutidisciplinary partners spread across its London and Luxembourg offices.

Speechly Bircham managing partner James Carter said: “Victoria’s appointment supports our growth strategy in the financial services sector.”

Speechly Bircham saw a slight drop in turnover in 2012/13, from £57.5m to £57.6m. Net profit inched up from £11.3m to £11.6m, while profit per equity partner (PEP) fell 2.3 per cent from £300,000 in 2011/12 to £293,000 (28 June 2013).

Last week, SJ Berwin partners voted through a $1bn merger with King & Wood Mallesons, in the first ever tie up between two major UK and Asian Pacific firms(31 July 2013).
