SJ Berwin has promoted associate Vanessa Therrode to partner so she can head the firm’s structured finance practice.

Vanessa Therrode
Therrode has taken over from outgoing partner Brian Carne. She heads up a team that includes two associates plus one Islamic finance specialist.
Having trained under Carne at Lovells, Therrode moved with him to SJ Berwin in 2005.
She has effectively been heading the structured finance team since Carne’s departure in the summer. It is not yet known where Carne has moved on to.
Therrode’s specialties include securitisation, derivatives, structured products and repackaging, with current clients including AnaCap and Barclays Capital.
Head of finance Jeremy Cross said: “Vanessa’s very well liked by clients and is a first rate practitioner in the structured finance sphere. The market’s beginning to come back strongly and this is definitely an area we’re looking to grow.”
Therrode’s promotion is the second addition to the partnership in the firm’s finance department this year after the capture of leveraged finance partner Ian Borman from Allen & Overy in July.
