SJ Berwin's European teams have been shored up with two lateral partner hires in Milan and Paris.
David Balboni joins the firm's Milan European competition law team from Baker & McKenzie and Nicholas Theys joins Paris as an insolvency and restructuring partner from Weil Gotshal.
Balboni is an Italian lawyer and was previously a senior associate at Bakers. He has acted before the European Commission and the Italian Competition Authority, where he was seconded for six months.
His arrival at SJ Berwin will take the size of the firm's pan-European Competition practice to 13 partners.
Theys was previously a senior associate and of counsel at Weil Gotshal. He is also a member of the French bar and specialises in acting for companies in crisis situations, financial distress, restructurings and turnarounds.
He was recently appointed as president of the French Chapter of the US Turnaround Management Association.
