SJ Berwin has moved to bolster its energy practice with the hire of a senior City lawyer from Greenberg Traurig Maher (GTM) as part of the recruitment of four partners across Europe.
GTM’s Neil Upton is set to join the firm in London to co-head the energy and infrastructure team alongside Elaine Gibson-Bolton.
Upton joined Greenberg Traurig in 2010 from DLA Piper (2 February 2010), where he was global energy head, and was most recently energy head and consultant at the US firm’s London base. He is one of the energy market’s leading lawyers.
The City firm is also understood to be hiring a key GTM energy partner in London.
SJ Berwin is also bringing in corporate partners Ettore Scandale from R&P Legal and Davide Proverbio from Norton Rose, both in Milan, and EU and competition partner Riccardo Croce from Squire Sanders Hammonds in Brussels.
