SJ Berwin has appointed former Dechert London managing partner Steven Fogel as a non-executive director on its partnership board.
Fogel was senior partner of legacy Titmuss Sainer and led the firm through its merger with US firm Dechert in 2000, becoming head of the combined outfit’s City base.
He retired from Dechert’s partnership in June 2012 and has since served on the board of the University of London and as chairman of medical devices company Uropharma (2 March 2012).
He becomes SJ Berwin’s 12th partnership board member and the second non-executive after former UBS banker Lucinda Riches came aboard the City firm’s oversight committee last year following the exit of former Linklaters chief Tony Angel to DLA Piper (2 April 2012).
The 12-member board now includes eight partners including senior partner Stephen Kon as chair and managing partner Rob Day, as well as finance director Mike Giles and strategy director Rachel Reid, both of whom are non-lawyers.
Kon said in a statement:“Steven brings great legal insight and commercial acumen to our board. Together with Lucinda Riches, our other non-executive director, Steven will make an invaluable contribution as we continue to strategically develop and grow our business whilst putting our clients first and delivering them a top-quality service.”
