The Ministry of Justice today (15 May) announced six new QCs for Northern Ireland.
Solicitor Barra McGrory from Belfast-based firm P J McGrory & Co has been made up to silk, becoming one of the very few outside the bar to be appointed.
Barristers Charles McKay, Monyeazo Anyadike-Danes, Alan Kane, Philip Mateer and Thomas Beattie – who are all members of the Bar Library of Northern Ireland – have also been made up.
The news comes as the QC application process in England and Wales is still ongoing.
According to the QC secretariat's timetable, all referees should have been contacted and applicants will now have been invited for interviews, which will take place in the summer. Successful candidates will be informed at the end of this year.
