Former High Court judge Sir Gordon Langley has been ­appointed as chairman of the Takeover Panel.

Langley, who sat in the Commercial Court between 1995 and 2007, takes over in May 2010, when current chairman Peter Scott CBE retires.

Langley was called to the bar in 1966 when with Fountain Court and was appointed as a QC in 1983. He will be deputy chairman of the Takeover Panel from August until he takes over from Scott in 2010.
