Sintons

UK Top 200 position: 158

Turnover at Newcastle-based Sintons rose 11 per cent to £11.8m in 2011–12.

As with the previous year’s growth, this was partly boosted by an increase in headcount. The total number of qualified lawyers rose from 63 to 74, while the overall number of fee earners increased to 123.

Sintons’ partnership grew to 26 in 2012 as a result of three internal promotions and one lateral hire, the latter being Graeme Ritzema, who joined from Blackett Hart & Pratt (now QualitySolicitors BHP Law). However, the equity partner count remained static for another year at 15.

Litigation continues to be a fruitful practice area, contributing 57 per cent of 2011–12's turnover. Personal injury is also an ongoing focus. Sintons won several significant clients in the healthcare sector in 2012, including gaining a first-time appointment on the Newcastle NHS Hospital Foundation Trust legal panel, which includes just two other firms. Sintons also receives a growing volume of work from GPs and dentists.
