Sinclair Roche & Temperley is appointing a new partner to its Hong Kong office. Douglas Smith, formerly a partner at Canadian firm Goodman Phillips & Vineberg's Hong Kong office, is being brought in to boost the firm's strengths in commercial and corporate finance.
David Beaves, head of Sinclair Roche & Temperley's Hong Kong office, says: "Douglas' arrival adds a new dimension to the services that we are able to offer clients and gives us the opportunity to move into new market sectors such as telecommunications and e-commerce."
Kevin Dean, head of Sinclair Roche & Temperley's company commercial practice and member of the strategy committee, says: "Douglas was recommended to us, and he has, we think, just the right skills to operate out of our Hong Kong office. We're looking to do similarly in Shanghai - we're talking to two other company commercial lawyers to recruit there."
There will be two further solicitors joining the Hong Kong office in August.
Smith's 15 years of commercial experience has given him a broad knowledge of Far East finance issues and challenges.
