Simmons & Simmons has consolidated its position in the rail sector with an appointment to advise the Republic of Ireland on the policy framework for a IR£4.5bn (£3.6bn) Public Private Partnership (PPP).
Simmons & Simmons won the work as part of a consortium led by Ernst & Young, which included WS Atkins, Fitzpatrick Associates and joint legal advisers Arthur Cox.
The Simmons team is led by construction partner Richard Dyton, with Philip Wright and Adrian Kent. Dyton says: "The objective is a coordinated approach to PPPs in Ireland, learning from experiences in the UK and elsewhere, in time for the first schemes to be launched in late 2001." Overseas rail work is a key target for the firm.
