Simmons tax guru joins Treasury

Simmons & Simmons is losing a second senior partner to the Government in just over a year.

Edward Troup, managing partner of the tax and pensions group at Simmons, has been appointed as the director of business and indirect tax at the Treasury.

His move into public service follows Simmons’ former head of competition Peter Freeman, who became deputy chairman of the Competition Commission earlier last year.

In March the Treasury expanded its tax policy directorate, splitting it into two units, one of which will be led by Troup where he will focus on integrating work previously shared between the Treasury, the Inland Revenue and Customs & Excise.
