Simmons & Simmons has boosted its corporate practice with the lateral hire of O'Melveny & Myers counsel Matt Rees.
Rees, who specialises in M&A and private equity, joins the London office as a partner. He will work under the firm's head of corporate Mark Curtis.
Rees ;said ;he ;was attracted by the strength of Simmons' corporate practice. "Simmons has a full-service platform, but also they have a bunch of young, motivated guys," he explained. "That's the kind of practice I wanted to be a partner in."
The appointment represents another boon for the corporate group after the firm lured capital markets partner Chris Horton from Lovells in September last year.
Horton and Rees start their new roles this month, joining former Jones Day associate Daniel Winterfeldt, who was appointed as a partner last September.
Curtis ;said: ;"Matt's appointment is part of the strategic growth of the international corporate practice and his experience will further strengthen our capability in M&A for hedge funds and private equity."
Rees spent nine years at Allen & Overy before joining O'Melveny in 2005, arriving as a trainee in 1996 and securing promotion to associate in 1998.
