Simmons & Simmons is set to launch an office in Qatar later this year on the back of its government work and recent developments regarding the countrys vast natural gas reserves. The new office is due to open in September after gaining partnership approval earlier this week. The firm opened an office in Abu Dhabi in 1994 and the Qatar office will take its international network up to 19 offices. Simmons says the office will enable the firm to build on its close relations with the Qatar government, for which it has advised on corporate, financial markets, property and litigation matters in the past. Qatars economy has been revolutionised by the development of its gas reservoir, the North Field, which is the largest of its kind in the world at 900-trillion cubic feet. Qatar has natural gas reserves of over seven-trillion cubic metres. Janet Gaymer, Simmons senior partner, said: "We intend to build on our existing relations within the country, particularly in the energy, projects, corporate and construction sectors."
