There is a glut of global law firms in Singapore and, as of spring 2013, one more jumped into the fray. London-based Simmons & Simmons was granted a licence and is already describing its office in the city-state as its southeast Asia hub.
Paul Li, the firm's head of Asia, says Simmons will focus on a range of work, including projects, energy and infrastructure, structured credit, as well as technology outsourcing instructions. All of which will be wrapped round the firm's core practice areas in the region: financial institutions, asset management, technology media and telecommunications, energy and infrastructure, and life sciences.
The firm also plans to launch an international arbitration practice from Singapore.
The Asia Pacific profile is an edited version of a full write-up that appears in The Lawyer Asia Pacific 150, a comprehensive analysis of the legal market in the region that ranks the top 100 local firms and leading 50 international players by headcount.
