Simkins wins Dibbs' media ace

The North's leading competition lawyer has become the latest partner to quit Dibb Lupton Alsop.

Stephen Hornsby, an expert in sport, competition and media-related regulatory issues, joined the Simkins Partnership, a London media law firm, as a partner last week. He will be attached to the firm's media and corporate group.

He is the only lawyer to have successfully pursued a judicial review case against the Office of Fair Trading, where he acted on behalf of Stagecoach.

“I was attracted by their [Simkins] international client base and excellent high-level industry contacts and reputation,” Hornsby says.

He brings several major clients to the Simkins Partnership, including the English First Division rugby clubs.

Six months ago Simkins recruited the former European vice-president of Compuserve and general counsel of Pearsons, Jonathan Sellors, to establish the new media commercial department.

It has also appointed former Rowe & Maw associate Sebastian Briggs, who joined two weeks ago.

Sellors claims the new department, which specialises in areas such as internet liability and digital distribution, has already attracted major new clients Sony Europe and NTL.

The firm claims it is looking to compete with top new media firms Olswang and Bird & Bird.
