Signy plays key role as Simpson Thacher advises Blackstone on Broadgate deal

Former Clifford Chance heavyweight Adam Signy has scored his first major deal since joining Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, advising Blackstone Group on its acquisition of the Broadgate estate.

Signy and Simpson Thacher partner Farhad Karim led a team advising Blackstone on a joint venture with British Land that has seen the private equity house acquire 50 per cent of the London estate for £77m.
Under the terms of the deal British Land will offload half the £2.1bn debt it used to finance Broadgate onto Blackstone.
The deal comes after Signy joined the New York elite firm’s London office in May this year (5 May 2009).
Berwin Leighton Paisner acted as co-counsel to Blackstone, advising on real estate and tax issues, with partners Robert Bindless and Michael Wistow leading.
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer advised British Land in relation to its shareholder circular. It is understood that British Land relationship partner Julian Long led a team from the magic circle firm.
Earlier this year Freshfields advised British Land on its £740m rights issue (13 February 2009).
SJ Berwin was instructed by longstanding client British Land on the Blackstone deal, with relationship partner Michael Goldberg leading a team from the firm.
Simmons & Simmons also had a role advising British Land, with partner John Davies leading a team from the firm on securitisation issues.
