This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
Chicago-headquartered Sidley Austin has promoted three partners in its London office, the most seen in at least the last four years.
All three new London partners – Jonathan Edge, Theresa Kradjian and Paul Matthews – are structured finance and securitisation experts.
In all 36 lawyers were made up to the partnership, a slight dip on last year's record 37. The Chicago headquarters unsurprisingly gained the most new partners with 11, followed by the firm's 400-lawyer New York office with seven.
Overseas offices generally did well this year. In addition to the three new London partners, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Frankfurt and Brussels each scored a new partner.
Sidley is unusual in making its annual promotions in the summer; most US firms make them in November or December ahead of the new calendar (and US financial) year.
London managing partner Drew Scott said of the promotions: "While lateral partner recruitment remains very important for us, we’re proud that 24 of our total 41 partners in London, including each of Jonathan, Paul and Theresa, were appointed from among our associates."
