Sidley Austin taps Clifford Chance for structured finance partner

Clifford Chance has seen a further exit from its structured finance practice, with partner Matthew Cahill leaving to join US firm Sidley Austin in London.

Cahill, who has been based in the magic circle firm’s Abu Dhabi office since 2011, is set to move to Sidley’s City branch in early November.

His departure follows the exit of Clifford Chance structuring finance partner Neil Hamilton to join Paul Hastings’ City base next month (17 September 2012).

Cahill specialises in capital management transactions, asset disposals, structured finance and securitisation. He was based in Tokyo between 1995 and 2004, leading Clifford Chance’s capital markets practice there for eight years.

London-based Sidley global finance head John Woodhall, who has known Cahill for 20 years, said: “We certainly see opportunities for Matthew to open up client opportunities to us more.”
