LIVERPOOL practice Silverbeck Rymer has taken over its smaller neighbour Shufflebottoms in a move that both sides say will be beneficial. The incorporation took place on Monday when the five Shufflebottoms lawyers moved over to their new firm's offices.Shufflebottoms senior partner John Shield joins as a partner, but his two partner colleagues will initially start out as solicitors. The incorporation of the firm has led to two administrative redundancies at Shufflebottoms.Silverbeck Rymer partner Patricia Ewen says that the move made sense because the two firms complemented each other. She says Sliverbeck Rymer specialised in civil litigation while Shufflebottoms was a commercial firm concentrating on conveyancing and litigation.Ewen says: "We felt we could offer more services to our existing client base. That was the basis of the decision."Shufflebottoms was set up in 1899, but Shield says he had no regrets about the move, which would provide a better administrative back-up for the lawyers."We shared the same accountant and he thought it was a good idea for a small commercial firm to join up with a civil litigation firm," he says."We are looking forward to having a large litigation arm."
