General counsel Keith Marriott took over the NEC’s top legal role last year and launched a review of the group’s legal outlay. After a competitive tender involving six firms, Shoosmiths was chosen as principle adviser.
Commercial ;partner David Jackson and Birmingham head Joel Kordan lead the relationship.
Jackson said: “It’s a very important client – not just because it’s a great name, but also because Shoosmiths is very committed to growing its presence in Birmingham.”
Pinsents has advised the NEC since it was founded.
A firm spokesman said: “We’re always disappointed to lose a client. But we understand the process it has gone through and its conclusion.”
The NEC, which runs four venues in the Birmingham area, also appointed Hammonds and Shakespeare Putsman to provide support on regulatory and employment ;matters respectively.
