National law firm Shoosmiths has been shortlisted for the ‘Best Scheme to Encourage Staff Fundraising’ category in the Better Society Awards.

Organised by the Better Society Network, and now in its second successful year, the Better Society Awards reach out beyond the horizons of any one sector to assess and reward those who are helping create a better, more equal, ethical and sustainable world from the corporate perspective.

Shoosmiths has been shortlisted in recognition of their commitment to corporate social responsibility and programme of fundraising activities for charity.

In 2014\2015 the firm raised and donated £182,728.30 to charity. This included a £74,961.60 donation to national charity partner Winston’s Wish. The charity is the leading child bereavement charity in the UK and it used the money to fund two additional family services practitioners.

Recent fundraising activities include the Shoosmiths annual silent auction which raised a total of £9,000. The money was donated to the Alzheimers Society; Ash Lea School; Birmingham Childrens Hospital; Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland; Guide Dogs; Manchester Mind; Milton Keynes Community Foundation; Motiv8 South and the National Autistic Society.

The firm also provides legal advice on a pro bono basis to charities and individuals unable to afford to pay legal fees. In addition, employees are encouraged to spend a day per year volunteering in the local community.

The winners will be announced at the gala dinner on 12 May 2016 at the Millennium Hotel, London Mayfair. View the finalists at www.bettersociety.net/awards.
