Shoosmiths has lost its shipping practice to south coast firm Lester Aldridge after it poached two marine-specialist partners and an associate to open a new office in Southampton.
Partners Jonathan HadleyPiggin and Russell Kelly and associate Gus Lewis are all joining the practice, called LA Marine, which is expected to turn over £500,000 in its first year.
Lester Aldridge's Roger Woolley is succeeding current managing partner Barry Glazier at the 31-partner firm at the end of November. He is optimistic about the moves. "This is an exciting time for Lester Aldridge," he says. "We were a south coast-based firm not doing a lot of marine-based work, but this will change with LA Marine."
The Shoosmiths shipping team developed a relationship with Lester Aldridge through common client Navigators & General, and will be able to rely on the assistance of Lester Aldridge's sole shipping practitioner partner Mike Giddin. The Southampton office is due to open in January 2001.
