Shoosmiths & Harrison has taken over former Inland Revenue premises in Northampton to house its expanding conveyancing operation, Property Direct, after winning panel work from the Bradford & Bingley building society.
The move follows Bradford & Bingley's acquisition of Lloyds TSB's Black Horse Agency.
Shoosmiths also advises the UK's largest estate agent, Countrywide Assured.
A Shoosmiths spokesman says: "We are opening more than 3,000 files a month."
He says the expansion is due to Shoosmiths' lower costs in comparison with London-based firms.
He adds: "Some of our detractors call us a factory, but that couldn't be further from the truth."
The new building will house more than 150 fee earners, headed by David Parton, and the re-mortgage arm, headed by Fiona Gregory.
Andrew Tubbs, head of financial institutions at Shoosmiths, says: "We estimate that we now have the space to double in size."
On 21 June, The Lawyer revealed Shoosmiths' intentions to relocate personal injury and uninsured loss recovery to new premises in Basingstoke, in a move which threatens its offices in Reading and Solent.
