Sheffield Uni to create first legal first panel

The University of Sheffield is to form its first-ever legal panel, with firms invited to submit applications across three different areas.

This marks a break with current informal arrangements with a number of firms and follows the arrival of Phil Harvey from the University of Sussex in the roles of registrar, secretary and chief operating officer.

Harvey established the first panel at Sussex University, which saw the institution appoint three firms on local, national and international matters (TheLawyer.com, 20 July 2009).

At Sheffield University Harvey is seeking advice across commercial; governance; and regulations, people and physical estates.

The deadline for pre-qualification questionnaires was 1 March and invitations to tender will be issued on 26 March, with a decision expected this summer.

The three-year panel will begin on 1 August, with the possibility of another one-year extension.
