Shearmans hires counsel for Brussels

Annette Schild was counsel in the Brussels office of Cleary Gottlieb, but will now be the most senior lawyer on the ground in Shearmans' new office.
The office is managed by German partner Hans Jürgen Meyer-Lindemann, who divides his time between Brussels and Düsseldorf.
The hire is the first senior competition appointment after the arrival of Clifford Chance's head of competition Chris Bright to the London office (The Lawyer, 23 April).
Schild said: "Shearmans is a fantastic firm that didn't have all that strong an antitrust practice, but showed its commitment by hiring Chris Bright. It has a huge M&A practice, which means it can develop that antitrust practice, so it's a great opportunity."
While she is joining as counsel, it is understood she will be made up to partner in the next promotion round.
