US firm Shearman & Sterling has published its diversity statistics for the first time, showing the social diversity of staff in the firm’s London office.
Figures show that 48 per cent of associates are female with the gender gap drastically rising with 80 per cent of total partners being male.
Meanwhile, 93 per cent of partners and 79 per cent of associates class themselves as white with 13 per cent and 4 per cent of associates being of Asian and black heritage respectively.
The age bracket with the highest number of partners is 25 to 44.
All partners at the firm classed themselves as heterosexual with half being the first in their family to attend university. At associate level the margin widens with only 29 per cent accounting for first-generation university goers.
No partners work flexibly and only five per cent of associates make use of the option.
