Shearman & Sterling’s entire day-time document production department faces redundancy as the firm develops a career path of its secretarial role.
All six staff in the department are currently in the one-month redundancy consultation process, which follows the introduction of the role of secretarial team leader next week.
Two secretaries will be promoted to the role internally and two hired externally to improve the efficiency of document production during the day, as it is understood that the day-time document production team was not fully utilised.
When asked whether this was a cost-saving measure HR manager Lois Gordon said: “This is purely about the development of the secretarial role that has been going on for some time though clearly there will be a saving.”
The evening document production team of approximately 10 staff is not affected.
