Shearman & Sterling and Greenberg Traurig scooped lead roles advising on a Brazilian $2.5bn equity offering.
Shearman & Sterling partner Andrew Janszky led the firm’s team advising underwriters Itau USA Securities and JPMorgan on the deal, which incorporates a series of four offerings.
Janszky said: “We have worked with these underwriters and with Gerdau Group itself in the past, so we are very familiar with their operations. It was a challenging deal because one of the equity offerings was listed with the SEC and all with Brazil CHK. This made the regulatory aspects complex.”
Greenberg Traurig New York partner Ross Kaufman led the team advising Gerdau Group on US law, while local firms Matthos Filho Veiga Filho Marry Jr. & Quioga and Machardo Meyer Sandocz & Opice advised the group on local law.
Shearman & Sterling has been in Sao Paulo for four years, and is one of a number of UK and US-based firms focusing on the lucrative deal market in Brazil.
