Shearman & Sterling has appointed head of Frankfurt office Stephan Hutter as the firm's new head of Asia and Europe capital markets.
The move will see the capital markets teams in Frankfurt, London, Paris and Rome headquartered for the first time from Germany.
Hutter said: "The aim is to connect the firm's capital markets capabilities across the European network and build up strength across the board. Heading the practice group from Germany will make it easy to connect all across Europe."
Hutter has been managing partner of Frankfurt since 1995, having joined the firm's New York office in 1986 and transferred to Germany in 1992.
Hutter commented: "London has been extremely successful in the leveraged sector and we will continue to do well in this area. What we want to do now is bring all the European offices together to develop each of the European offices capital markets strengths."
