Shaw Pittman's health practice loses founder plus two lawyers

Shaw Pittman's health law practice has been rocked by three high-profile departures, including the practice's founding partner, in the past month. The three lawyers - partners Guy Collier and Rebecca Jackson, and counsel Lane Macalester - have left for different destinations.
Collier returned to McDermott Will & Emery at the beginning of last month. His move was followed by Macalester, who moved in-house to become general counsel and senior vice-president at electronic prescription network RxHub. Rebecca Jackson has joined the Washington DC office of Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw.
Collier left McDermott in 1999 to help set up the health care group at Shaw Pittman. He said: "The firm's wide array of general business legal services, as well as its broad base of health law services, was a significant factor in my decision to return to McDermott." Collier acts for a number of health care institutions on transactional and regulatory matters.
Head of McDermott's Washington health practice Joel Michaels said: "The firm, and particularly the members of the DC health practice, are delighted to see Guy return. He brings a wealth of experience and credentials which will enhance our already pre-eminent national health practice."
Jackson also has a transactional and regulatory focus to her health practice. Prior to joining Shaw Pittman, she founded and led the health care practice at Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo.
The bulk of Shaw Pittman's health law practice is based in Washington, with some lawyers located in Los Angeles, New York and Northern Virginia. In light of the successive departures, the practice now comprises five partners and around 17 lawyers in total. Managing partner Paul Mickey said that the firm remains committed to the practice.
