Where did you train?
I was trained in the London, Hong Kong and China offices of a international law firms of Simmons & Simmons (as Chinese legal counsel) and Sidley Austin (as a senior legal consultant).
Have you lived or worked outside your home jurisdiction? What did you learn from it?
I worked in London and Hong Kong office of Simmons & Simmons (as Chinese legal counsel) and Shanghai Office of Sidley Austin (as a senior legal consultant) and I was involved extensively in foreign direct investment, securities (including B-share, H-share, and red chip listing on the stock exchange in China, Hong Kong, London and the U.S.), venture capital, project finance and real estate matters and representing a number of well-known domestic and multinational companies.
When did you become partner?
I became a partner since I joined Jun He in 2002.
What deal/case in your career stands out the most and why?
The H share IPO and listing on HKSE of Shanghai Electric, as it is the first H-Share IPO of PRC state owned conglomerate enterprise handled by Jun He’s Shanghai office. And it is the first H share IPO and listing of major Shanghai SOE after about 10 years of the previous H share IPO of Shanghai SOE.
What have been your recent deals?
Recently we represent Bao Yuan Holdings Limited on its backdoor listing on HKSE, by listing a HKD 400 million acquisition of M3 Technology Development Limited.
What is the biggest challenge facing your market at the moment?
I think it should be the global financial crisis and short of support of solid middle-level and senior associates.
What has been the most significant development in your sector in recent years?
The establishment of GEM (Growth Enterprises Market) board in Shenzhen Stock Exchange, offshore RMB corporate bond offering, outbound investment by PRC companies, and specialization of legal practice on Chinese legal market.
If you hadn’t been a lawyer, what would you have been?
If I hadn’t been a lawyer, I would probably be a musician or PE fund manager.
Which country do you travel to most frequently and which country do you like the best?
I have been to Netherland and UK for a lot of times but I like USA the best.
What is your favourite book?
History and astronomy related books.
What is your favourite restaurant?
Lv Yang Tun, a restaurant in Shanghai that is famous for its traditional Huiyang Style cuisine.
