Helena Miles, Serle Court Chambers’ first ever chief executive, is to leave the set at the end of the year for a new role at Marks & Spencer.
After five years at the commercial chancery set Miles is to become the new head of business efficiency at the high street retailer.
During her time with Serle Court the chambers has effected a merger with One Hare Court, moved into new premises and doubled its turnover.
The set is ranked 14th in The Bar Top 30, part of The Lawyer 100, with a turnover of £16m – up 21 per cent on 2002 - and average revenue per barrister of £340,000.
Head of chambers Lord Neill of Bladen QC said: “Serle Court was one of the first sets of chambers to appoint a chief executive. We believe our working lives have been transformed by this decision and we intend to continue to manage our business in this way. We are actively seeking a new chief executive to succeed Helena.”
