While a revival in results and a worthy League Cup win over Alex Ferguson's (the subject of Separated at Birth a fortnight ago) Manchester United must have relieved some of the pressure on Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier, Tulkinghorn was surprised when the manager of the UK's most successful football club was recently appointed chairman of the Bar Council under his pseudonym Matthias Kelly QC. After a half-time heart attack last year (Leeds' tactics can often have this effect), Houllier can obviously bring personal experience to his alter-ego's health and safety and employment specialisations. Perhaps the boot room philosophy is just what the Bar Council needs - just so long as it doesn't involve his team at the council being made to wear those infamous white suits.
