Lord Irvine is at loggerheads with a group of right-of-centre familyvalues campaigners,

who are attacking Lord Irvine's plans to introducelegally binding prenuptial agreements

on the grounds they are incompatiblewith a couple's vows to stay together "till death

us do part". However theLord Chancellor's Department has hit back at its critics, the

Family PolicyStudies Centre, claiming the agreements "promote co-operation rather

thanlitigation" and that it is sensible for the courts to recognise prenuptialsif

couples choose to make them.
