Schulte Roth & Zabel London-based partner Daniel Shapiro has taken up a non-legal position at his client asset management fund Lincoln Vale while still continuing to work at his law firm.
Shapiro, who was a founding partner of the US firm and who specialises in tax and business issues related to investment funds, has advised Lincoln Vale for the last two years.
Shapiro will spend the majority of his time at Lincoln Vale and said he was not concerned about the impact of possible conflicts: “If there are conflicts that come up we will resolve them maturely,” he said.
He added: “It is somewhat unusual, I admit. But there are other lawyers that were partners in firms who at later stages in their careers have taken on additional positions elsewhere.
“My own sense is that this may happen increasingly. Lawyers develop skills in certain areas that spill over into parts of business they are advising.”
Meanwhile the firm has relocated special counsel Josh Dambacher to the London office from New York.
Dambacher focuses on hedge funds, private equity funds, investment advisers, investment partnerships, regulatory compliance, acquisitions, seed capital and joint venture arrangements.
