School goes on-line with firm's help

Mayfair firm Jeffrey Green Russell has helped the Ernest Bevin School in Tooting to set up its own Internet pages on the World Wide Web, making it the first state school in the UK to establish its own site.

The initiative was prompted by the deputy head teacher's daughter, Jade, who secured a work experience placement at Jeffrey Green Russell.

After using the firm's computing and communications technology, she persuaded her school to ask it for help.

Jeffrey Green Russell sponsored the school financially and provided technical assistance. The school was supplied with a modem and the firm arranged an Internet site and email address.

Senior partner Clive Whitfield-Jones said: "We are acutely aware of not only the importance of a good education but also the need for the next generation to be equipped with appropriate technical skills."
