Schillings’ partner count cut by a third as two quit firm

Niche media firm Schillings has lost a third of its partners. Two partners from what was a six-partner firm, sports lawyer Peter Goodman and media litigator Amber Melville-Brown, have resigned. Both joined a few months after a schism at the firm, then called Schilling & Lom, in late 2001, when senior partner Keith Schilling’s co-founder Nicholas Lom left, along with media partners Jonathan Coad and Mark Thompson.

Goodman has moved to Hertfordshire firm Pictons, taking some commercial work for clients such as Jeremy Clarkson with him (although the TV presenter remains a Schillings client), as well as his sports practice, which mainly serves Formula 1 drivers.
“Moving out of London has enabled me to put my hourly rate down in the region of £100,” Goodman said.

Before Schillings, Melville-Brown was head of defam-ation at Finers Stephens Innocent while still an assistant. She is joining David Price & Co as a consultant.

Schillings’ remaining four partners all focus mainly on defamation work for a host of A-list celebrities and high-net-worth individuals.
