Solicitors' Complaints Bureau figures are expected to show an increase in the number of completed cases in 1993 compared with last year.
But its annual report, published this week, will also show a rising number of complaints and running costs.
The SCB will highlight improvements in its complaints handling procedures, which last year resulted in 18,000 matters. Almost 22 per cent of cases were referred back to firms under practice rule 15.
But the numbers of complaints received about solicitors will exceed the 17,000 complaints made by solicitors and the public in 1992.
SCB director Veronica Lowe says: “While the rising number of complaints is of concern, we are not complacent and it is encouraging that there is a wider acceptance of client care principles among the profession despite recessionary pressures.”
