Salans has won client DNA Films – a new $50m (£31m) joint venture between the UK Film Council’s existing franchisee DNA Films and US heavyweight Twentieth Cen-tury Fox.
Partners Jonathan Berger and Graham Stedman, advising DNA management and top British producer Andrew MacDonald, started working on the deal while still with their former firm Theodore Goddard (now Addleshaw Goddard). Addleshaw Godd-ard continued to advise on tax aspects of this deal, although further DNA work will go to Salans.
Berger has been advising MacDonald – best known for his cult film Trainspotting and The Beach – since his first major production Shallow Grave in 1993.
The hire of Berger represents the firm’s first foray into UK media, although it has capabilities in the practice area in its oversees offices.
Olswang advised Fox on the deal. The joint venture is expected to use a combination of the two advisers.
