Salans secures new Turkish alliance partner

Salans has linked up with a new alliance firm in Turkey after the partners in its previous associated firm decided to go their separate ways.

The European firm is now associated with Turkish firm Balcioglu Selcuk Akman, instead of previous ally Ozel & Ozel. Ozel partners Selim Keki and Goksan Gurel have joined Balcioglu Selcuk, which will now be known as Balcioglu Selcuk Akman Keki.

Fellow Ozel partners Haluk Ozel and Orkan Guncan have left to pursue their own interests.

The enlarged firm will have five partners, led by private equity and corporate lawyer Galip Selcuk. The team includes specialists in finance, real estate, corporate law and litigation.

A further 29 associates, comprised of existing Balcioglu Selcuk and Ozel lawyers, will support the partnership.

Salans’ relationship with Ozel lasted eight years. Under Turkish bar rules, foreign firms wishing to offer Turkish law advice must have an association with a local outfit.

Selcuk welcomed the opportunity the new association gave his firm to offer a “truly global full legal service” to clients.

Turkey is of increasing interest to international firms. Last week McDermott Will & Emery announced it was teaming up with commercial firm Fora & Sanli (4 January 2012), while 2011 saw Allen & Overy, Baker & McKenzie, Chadbourne & Parke and Clifford Chance all establish a presence in the country.
