Tim Fallowfield is set to join J Sainsbury as group company secretary in October.
The appointment of Fallowfield sees him move from his current role at supply chain service provider Exel, where he is company secretary and director of corporate legal services. The vacancy arose after the present incumbent Nigel Matthews announced his retirement from Sainsbury's in November. Fallowfield, who qualified with Clifford Chance in 1990, will report to group finance director Roger Matthews. Sainsbury's also has a new director of corporate finance. Jonny Mason will join the company at the end of the month, replacing Richard Chadwick, who becomes director of internal audit. An Exel spokesperson said: "It's a good career move and we wish him well." Fallowfield will be replaced by Exel's corporate legal adviser Doug Evans, who has worked in-house there for about 18 months. Fallowfield was unavailable to comment.
