RPC has hired Worldpay corporate general counsel Matthew Griffith as a partner in its corporate insurance and financial services team.

The appointment comes just weeks after payment processor Worldpay announced its intention to float on the London Stock Exchange.

Allen & OveryFreshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Weil Gotshal & Manges are advising on the IPO.

Griffith joined Worldpay in 2012 after moving in-house from Sidley Austin where he was a partner in the firm’s insurance and financial services group. He was previous a partner in Pinsent Masons’ insurance practice.

RPC managing partner Jonathan Watmough said: “People with the depth and quality of Matthew’s experience in the insurance and financial services sectors are few and far between, and rarely on the market, so we’re particularly pleased that he’s chosen to join our growing team at RPC.

“The combination of his time in house at Worldpay and his previous experience in private practice means he really understands what goes into building long-term mutually beneficial relationships.”

Griffith’s hire follows news RPC made up four lawyers to its all equity partnership in May in its largest promotions round in three years.

RPC also hired Towers Watson risk consulting and software head Rory O’Brien in February to launch its management consultancy business, RPC Consulting.
