Hugh Devas will undertake a mix of property and environment work as a Boodle Hatfield partner from May 1, but will continue to act as a consultant for his old firm "for the time being".
Rowe & Maw's head of corporate, Paul Maher says he knew Devas' was becoming increasingly keen to combine his environment work with property work but this would have been difficult to achieve at Rowe & Maw.
He says: "He has helped us to build a reputation for excellence in this complex new field and we have a strong team in place. We had hoped to persuade him to stay, but respect his wish to join Boodle Hatfield, a firm we know well."
Boodle Hatfield's property department head, Tim Manning says: "His experience as a development lawyer and recognised environmental expertise will complement and strengthen our existing skills in property and environmental law."
