Rooks Rider appoints head of family law

Tax specialist Rooks Rider has started to rebuild its family law division with the appointment of leading div-orce lawyer Janet Tresman.

Tresman has been given the job as head of the division after the firm lost a family law partner and three assistants to Charles Russell last September.

Tresman brings with her 20 years experience in private practice and seven years as a deputy district judge on the London county court circuit.

She will be assisted by Clare Davis, a former actress with the Royal Shakespeare Company, who is now a barrister specialising in family law.

Richard Walker, the firm's head of litigation, says: “Janet is extremely experienced and has been a strong proponent of a more civilised approach to family law cases.

“She believes in finding practical and imaginative solutions to the problems of relationship breakdown rather than relying in the first place on the uncertainties of adversarial and hostile litigation. Bringing her on board is a very positive move for us.”

Tresman has been an active member of the Solicitors Family Law Association since 1983, and has been a credited mediator since the early 1990s. She has also had several articles published on family law.
