Romania’s Tuca Zbarcea takes former managing partner from rival Musat

Romanian firm Tuca Zbarcea & Asociatii has recruited the former co-managing partner of rival domestic firm Musat & Asociatii.

Catalin Baiculescu joined Tuca Zbarcea as a partner at the end of last week.

Baiculescu moves firms after 15 years at Musat, where he held roles including co-managing partner and deputy managing partner.

He previously worked alongside Tuca Zbarcea founding partner Florentin Tuca, who led a breakaway from Musat several years ago to set up his own firm.

Tuca said Baiculescu would be a “key asset” for the firm.

Tuca Zbarcea has not added any partners for three years, but the firm said it planned to make promotions and further hires during the course of 2013.

“At least two more lawyers will be promoted to partnership by the end of this year. We have entered a new phase of development, one in which we will not only look to strengthen specific areas of practices within the firm, but will also remain alert and seize opportunities for business growth, including by way of investing in human talent”, added co-managing partner Gabriel Zbarcea.

Baiculescu has advised on M&A and privatisations in Romania, as well as banking and finance, regulation and compliance, and restructuring. He has a particular focus on aircraft financing.

Three years ago Musat expanded its team by taking on the Bucharest office of Iberian firm Garrigues, which decided to pull out of Romania after two years (6 December 2010).
