MATTHEWArnold & Baldwin (MAB) is one
of The Rising 50's fastest growers, increasing
turnover by 28 per cent to £12.3m from £9.6m.
The firm recently opened in Milton Keynes with
partners from the collapsed Fennemores, a
move that drew in around £2m in extra revenue.
MAB could have had an even greater rise this
year after considering plans to merge with a
London firm.
After meeting with a selection of firms in the
capital, however, Watford-based MAB decided
to hold off. London still remains central to the
firm's plans, but it will likely make lateral hires
from larger firms to boost its presence in the City.
MAB did open a London office in 2005
focusing on public work, insolvency and
commercial property matters.
In Watford the firm positions itself as a
traditional commercial firm. MAB has followed
a profitable strategy of combining private client
with corporate work, as well as getting into
higher-value work with key clients such as
Barclays.
